Book Review – Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals: 100 Simple & Delicious Low-Carb, Paleo and Primal Friendly Recipes for Weight Loss and Better Health by Martina Slajerova.

3 out of 5 stars

I would like to thank Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds Press for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.

If you haven’t guessed it, I love to slow cook. Plus I was curious to see what this whole Keto style of eating was all about. The jokes going around the foodie places I belong to said it was the “fad” replacing paleo…. Which is odd as I thought Keto had been around for decades. And, guess what? It has! Not a FAD folks so calm the heck down!

And I did like some of the recipes as I am in to whole foods, healthy foods, easy to prep meals and ‘Keto Slow Cooker & One-Pot Meals’ definitely had all that.

BUT! (You knew I was leading up to one 😉 ) there was just something about this book that didn’t gel with me. I don’t know exactly what it is and I personally do feel it was the fault of the reader (ME!) rather than with the author or the book. It just came across as a rather “you must do it my way or you are doing it wrong” in a lot of places and just rubbed me the wrong way. Please realise this is only my perception and perhaps I was just in an odd mood when I read it?

A heck of a lot of the recipes also were just not my sort of thing. Due to my ever present allium intolerance, dairy issues and other “fun” food things, I needed a much wider scope of recipes before I would wish to own this book. Again – fault lies with the reader here people! My opinion on my perceptions! Not me dissing the book, food style or author, as I am sure there are true followers of the Keto diet out there who adored this book.

I was obviously just not meant for the Keto diet and therefore not the audience for this book.

Keto slow cooker

Would I recommend this book to others?

Weeeeellllll….. Maybe?

Gosh, this is a hard one for two reasons. Firstly – the book did not jump out at me and scream “these recipes are awesome! BUY ME!!!!”

Secondly, I am not a master of the Keto diet and so probably not the best person to give an opinion on a Keto cookbook. Yes, my lame out for this book! 😀 Not my usual diet, so not my thing to recommend!

Would I buy this book for myself?

Oh honey, I think we all know the answer to this one! No, I wouldn’t. Just not the right cookbook for me. Probably the right cookbook for a Keto loving person who doesn’t have all the food intolerances I have, but me? Not a good match. But, again, I totally feel the fault lies with the reader, not the book.

In summary: A cookbook that has proven to me I am not one for the Keto diet. 😉

Until nesxt time,

Janis.
