3 out of 5 stars.
I would like to thank Nourish for providing me with a free ARC of this book, via Netgalley, in exchange for an open and honest review.
This was an interesting cook book and simply had breakfasts to DIE for in it! My favourite meal of the day is a low carb, high protein breakfast and so that section alone is definitely worth taking a look at. I still can’t get the soufflé berry omelette out of my mind. 😉
Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the recipe sections are good too, but those who follow me cook book reviews will know of my food intolerances and, well, sadly there wasn’t a lot of other recipes I could easily make without a lot of compromising and changing. But that is my fault, not Ms Graimes! I can see this being a winner in any low carb household without my other food issues.
The format and layout of this book is excellent too. Clear, precise structured sections with easy to follow recipes. Nothing too tricky but nothing at that “for dummies” level I dislike. Basically a well written book, that people of all cooking skill levels could use and enjoy with ease. ‘The Top 100 Low-Carb Recipes’ is also filled with enticing photos of the meals it will help you make. All in all it has that good balance of ease of use, enticing recipes and gorgeous photos I love in a modern cook book. The reason I scored it so low is simply my failure to fall in love with it – the book wasn’t bad, it was just not a match to me.
And it is what I call a ‘universal’ cook book as each recipe is done in both the imperial and metric measurements for the world over to use and enjoy without having to figure things out.
Would I recommend this book to others?
Yes I would. I know a lot of people who have found better health and more energy from a low carb diet and this is indeed a cook book I would mention they take a look at.
Would I buy this book for myself?
Sadly no, but that is not the fault of the book, it is the fault of my stupid food intolerances restricting me from alliums, wheat, dairy and the like. I saw a lot of great recipes in ‘The Top 100 Low-Carb Recipes’ and was definitely enticed by a few too. But sadly the ratio of ones I would want to make and eat versus ones I couldn’t was not in my favour so not a book for me. Still a good book though!
In summary: A nice little concise low carb cook book for meals all day. Easy to read, easy to follow and filled with some great recipes. Just not a book for me, but what would I know? Go check it out for yourself and enjoy, it is definitely worth a look for lovers of low carb eating!
Until next time,
Janis.
